Do not leave your pet behind when moving

Trainee Inspector Lucky Olifant, says the Bloemfontein SPCA has recently been facing a difficult situation where owners pack their stuff and leave their pets behind.

In a Facebook post, the local animal rescue and shelter said that they were contacted by a concerned resident regarding a dog that was left on a property for weeks.

Olifant attended to the incident, only to be informed by the new owner of the property that the owner of the dog had left the province.

“During the inspection, we realized that the poor dog was kept on a very short chain. It was so short that the dog was unable to access its kennel. There was no food and water provided for this poor dog on the property,” the post read.

The resident felt that he couldn’t accommodate the dog on his property and gave the Bloemfontein SPCA permission to remove the dog.

“This was very sad for us as the Bloemfontein SPCA to see this poor dog in such horrific condition. We would like to inform the public if you don’t want your dog anymore, please bring it to the SPCA. We are situated at 25 McGregor, East End in Bloemfontein,” the SPCA concluded.
