The Sand du Plessis Theatre will be the home of the family-friendly and fun retelling of the timeless Cinderella Story, featuring timeless music from ABBA. The ABBA Show – A Cinderella Story, is set to take place on 29 October at 15:00.

The show will be staged in a modern setting with the backdrop of a hair salon. This multifaceted show will feature ballet, singing and dancing, and pantomime.

It is sure to captivate the Bloemfontein audience. The show will feature a special guest, Cathy Specific (Brendan van Rhyn), as the Fairy Godmother, along with world-class dancers such as Angela Revie, Aviwe November, Veronica Louw, and Marlon Frometa Ballester (National Ballet of Cuba) to name a few.

“In speaking to several people in Bloemfontein, it was pointed out to us that the audience is starved for good theatre. And with the fun but ultra-slick and professional show, the audience will leave the theatre with a sense of awe for weeks after,” says director Dirk Badenhorst from Mzansi Ballet. The show is director Badenhorst’s concept of combining age-old tradition with modern themes to make ballet accessible to all.

“This will most definitely be a first because of this show’s unique combination of genres. Mzansi Ballet is hoping to make this an annual event. Furthermore, Mzansi Ballet will also be hosting two workshops for aspiring Bloemfontein dancers,” says Badenhorst.

According to Edward Chamberlain from Jozistyle, the production is a winning trifecta featuring the music of ABBA, the beauty of ballet, and the fearless humour of Cathy Specific. “It is three shows in one that will appeal to everyone, whether young or old,” says Chamberlain.

Given that the show features music from ABBA, the audience can go dressed in their ABBA regalia as that is the theme for the afternoon and compete to be crowned on-stage as the best dressed at the ball.
